Frequently Asked Questions on Battery Maintenance, Installation and Disposal
Although the battery has been made as robust and durable as possible, the following should be adhered to for getting optimum performance and warranty services for the battery.
Use correct battery type suitable for your inverter/UPS.
Ensure that the connecting cables and cable connectors have adequate current carrying capacity and are long enough to prevent straining of the battery terminals.
It must be ensured that correct connections (positive to positive & negative to negative) are made.
Terminals should be kept clean and coated with a thin smear of petroleum jelly / Vaseline to protect them from corrosion. DO NOT USE GREASE. Terminal corrosion, dirt and moisture causes loss of power and make the battery weak. Battery top should be always kept clean and dry.
Ensure that battery is kept in charged condition and specific gravity of electrolyte in the battery (to be maintained upto the desired level) is between 1.240 and 1.250 at 27°C. The use of higher gravity of the electrolyte is very dangerous to the life of battery and the warranty becomes invalid in such cases.
During transportation vent plugs should be kept clean and tight with vent holes open. Use CWLI after installation.
In case the electrolyte level falls below the lower level marking, add proper distilled water only. Do not add other form of water like tap water or ground water from hand pump, since in such cases, the "chlorine test" will fail. The chlorine test is conducted for validating the warranty claim.
